Devastating news if you’re a Simpsons fan.

Harry Shearer, the voice of some of the series’ most loved characters including Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Ned Flanders, Lenny, Otto and Principal Skinner has apparently parted ways with The Simpsons.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “[Harry] tweeted Wednesday that the venerable Fox animated series has informed him that his contract will not be renewed.”

The show’s producer, James L. Brooks’  lawyer tweeted: ‘Show will go on, Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best”.

Shearer tweeted, adding in a second post: “This because I wanted what we’ve always had: the freedom to do other work. Of course, I wish him the very best.”

Shearer, who is 71 at the time of this article, has been a part of the cast since its inception in 1989, and currently earns a reported $300,000 per episode.

Rumblings on the web suggest that the characters he voiced will not be cut from the show, but rather re-cast with ‘top talent’.

Harry has recently responded to his fans, who are showing him support on Twitter:
